The PFS has published a guide for advisers on sustainable investing. In launching the guide, the PFS is recognising a permanent shift in the investment market.
A survey by the Confederation of British Industry and PwC in 2020 found that 80% of financial services businesses have set environmental, social and governance (ESG) as a fundamental part of their strategic plans.
In addition, the UK government has set a target of reaching net zero by 2050, which has an impact on all its regulatory activity. Research by the UK government shows that 68% of consumers said they would tick a box to indicate they would like their investment to be sustainable if given the choice to do so.
The guide points to good practice guidance on the technicalities of an ESG approach, as well as how to manage conversations about ESG with clients.
