Recent careers and employability events held in partnership with colleges and universities have been a roaring success…

Both the PFS and the CII enjoy good relationships with universities across the UK, and work with members of the profession to introduce students to exciting roles and opportunities using the degrees they are undertaking.

Education partnerships executive Vivine Cameron, in collaboration with local institutes, PFS members, the London Market Group and local employers, took part in a number of careers and employability events at the start of the academic year. More visits are scheduled for the new year.

Students were introduced to the CII and PFS: who we are; what we do; and why insurance and financial planning is pertinent to all. The roles of brokers, underwriters, actuaries, claims handlers, loss adjusters, data scientists, risk/catastrophe modellers, financial planners, financial advisers, paraplanners and wealth managers were explored. The sessions were also used to introduce alternative and business function roles (accounting, finance, HR, IT and sales among others) in relation to the profession.

Students were fully engaged and contributed enthusiastically to the interactive sessions, which leveraged use of the Discover simulation games and Q&As with employer panels.

Team effort

Our thanks go to the careers and employability teams at Cass Business School, Coventry University, Sheffield Hallam University, University of the West of England, Nottingham Trent University, Exeter University, Swansea University, Greenwich School of Management, University of Bradford, BPP, and Southampton University.

Finally, our thanks also go to our own institutes’ officers in assisting to source employer representatives, as well as our members for taking the time to share their experiences with students, answer questions, and for welcoming them to become members of the PFS, CII, local institutes and societies.

We would be pleased to hear from institutes, societies and members who would like to take part in employer panels at forthcoming events. Kindly contact Vivine Cameron at:  stepforward@cii.co.uk
